The Movie Divas
Leading ladies – a journey back in time
Before Hollywood, Berlin was the centre of the filmmaking universe. The legacy of the 1920’s lives on today and you can experience it on this very exclusive tour focusing on the divas of that era as you will be guided by author, journalist and Marlene Dietrich expert Birgit Wetzer-Zalkind. This one of a kind experience starts in the Savoy Hotel, the only existing hotel in Berlin still in use after World War II and takes you to the villas and hotels, streets, houses, apartments, and locations, where the old time movie stars and divas lived, acted and partied.
You will pass by Marlene Dietrich’s apartment and learn about Lilian Harvey, the Danish silent movie star Asta Nielsen, the scandalous Anita Berber as well as Olga Tschechowa and the Swede Zarah Leander who became the grande dame at the UFA film studios during the Third Reich. The tour continues through the up-market residential area of Grunewald where you’ll learn more about Leni Riefenstahl, Hildegard Knef and Romy Schneider.
