Berlin is one of the planet's largest gaytropolises whose versatile sex scene has become a strong tourist draw in the last few years. Indeed, there's something for everyone - men, women, gays, straights, S&M aficionados and fetishists.
Berlin has a long reputation for tolerance stretching back to King Frederick the Great in the 18th century. The Prussian monarch was a liberal thinker and friend of Voltaire, who cultivated religious and sexual open-mindedness - indeed, many historians believe that - though married - he was actually gay. Since 2001, Berlin has an openly gay Mayor, Klaus Wowereit, who came out with the famous quote "Ich bin schwul und das ist auch gut so!" (I am gay and that's ok!).
On this tour, you will learn about the historical development of Berlin's gay and lesbian community, which today is spread out across the entire city. Your guide will showcase the different neighbourhoods’ tucked-away hotspots – from the traditional centre of gay life around Nollendorfplatz (known as the gay Bermuda Triangle), to Kreuzberg with its alternative crowd, and Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg with their fashionable hipsters and boho-chic crowds.
Your private guide also gives you an insider’s viewpoint about the evolving nightlife scene and its diversified venues so you can enjoy the best parties in town. We know exactly where to go!
